Dr. Yukio Sadahiro joined our center as a Professor on April 1. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. He has worked at four different research institutes of the University of Tokyo as an assistant professor, lecturer, associate professor, and professor. His research interests lie in spatial analysis.
[Message from Dr. Sadahiro]
It is my great pleasure to join the Center for Spatial Information Science. It is my third chance to be here since the CSIS was settled. My research interests lie in spatial information science, especially in method development for spatial analysis. I have been working with spatial analysis for more than 35 years to reveal the underlying structures of a wide variety of spatial phenomena. Spatial objects are roughly classified into points, lines, polygons, and surfaces, and my primary focus is on the analysis of points and polygons. I also treat trajectory data that have been rapidly available due to the navigation satellite systems. Empirical studies cover a wide range of urban phenomena and facilities, including land-use patterns, population distribution, commercial facilities, railway networks, and so forth. For my students, I am a supporting staff member rather than a supervisor; my role is to make their research seeds into research papers. I am very happy to use CSIS’s abundant spatial data for my research.

4月1日付で、貞広幸雄先生が当センターに教授として着任されました。貞広先生は東京大学大学院工学系研究科にて博士号（工学）を取得後、同大学工学部都市工学科助手、工学系研究科都市工学専攻講師、先端科学技術研究センター講師、空間情報科学研究センター助教授、工学系研究科都市工学専攻助教授、空間情報科学研究センター教授、情報学環・学際情報学府教授を務められました。研究分野は空間解析です。
【貞広先生より】
新しく空間情報解析研究部門に参りました貞広です。空間情報科学研究センター設立時から数えて3回目の着任となります。宜しくお願いいたします。研究分野は広く言えば空間情報科学、中でも空間解析手法の開発が専門です。卒業以来35年以上に渡り、様々な空間現象を解析するための（主として）数理的手法を研究してきました。空間オブジェクトは大きくポイント、ライン、ポリゴン、サーフェスに分類されますが、中でもポイントとポリゴンを対象とした解析手法の開発に注力しています。実空間における実証研究では、商業施設、土地利用、人口分布、鉄道路線など、極めて多岐に渡る事象を取り上げています。また近年では、急速に普及しつつある移動軌跡データに対応する研究にも重点を置いています。学生指導では、本人の自主性を最大限尊重し、希望する研究課題を研究として成立させるための補助役という立場を取っています。本センターは多様かつ豊富な空間データを有しておりますので、それらを十分に生かした研究を実施したいと思います。
