On March 6, CSIS co-hosted a public event in collaboration with Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

During the event, local business representatives and city officials presented case studies on improving operational efficiency through data utilization, as well as initiatives for creating a more walkable city around Takehara Station. From CSIS, Project Assistant Professor Yuriko Yazawa delivered a presentation entitled “Visualizing Human-Nature Interaction through Landscape Analysis using Spatial Data”, and Assistant Professor Abel Pinheiro introduced research activities entitled “Co-Designing Inclusive Disaster Preparedness with Persons Requiring Special Consideration: Data-Driven Strategies and Lessons from Research & Practice”.

After the presentations from both organizations, a panel discussion on the theme of “Urban Development Utilizing Data through Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration” was held, featuring five panelists, including Mayor Imae.

The content of this event holds significance as an initiative contributing to SDG Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The event provided a valuable opportunity for in-depth discussions with Takehara City officials and local business representatives, expanding possibilities for the sustainable development of the region.

In November 2024, Takehara City and the Collaborative Research Organization for the Digital Spatial Society, with CSIS as the core department, signed a comprehensive partnership agreement on digitalization. Moving forward, we aim to further collaborate with Takehara City, including utilizing spatial information and advancing data-driven initiatives.
