Dr. Fuko Nakai joined our center as an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) on May 1. She received her Ph.D. in Informatics from the Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University, and previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Nagoya Institute of Technology. Her expertise lies in disaster risk reduction and urban data analytics.

I am excited to join the Center for Spatial Information Science as an Assistant Professor (Lecturer). My research has focused on disaster mitigation, climate change adaptation, human–water interactions, and urban sustainability, informed by a combined approach of agent-based modeling (ABM), statistical modeling, and spatial optimisation. My current research interests encompass: (1) participatory modeling based on ABM for flood evacuation strategies; (2) analysis of human activity patterns using mobile location data and assessment of disaster impacts; (3) spatial optimisation to examine sustainable land use, considering trade-offs and synergies between various urban needs including adaptation measures; and (4) long-term transitions in flood control technologies (e.g., levees) and their associated urbanisation patterns. I am passionate about moving beyond overly structure-dependent approaches to urban disaster management and advancing the social dimensions of resilience—by strengthening community capacity and contributing to the creation of a more equitable and just society. I’m truly grateful and excited to be part of this wonderful team, and I look forward to doing my best to contribute to the center.

5月1日付で、中居楓子先生が当センターに講師として着任されました。中居先生は京都大学大学院情報学研究科にて博士号（情報学）を取得後、名古屋工業大学工学研究科環境都市分野にて助教を務められました。研究分野は減災計画と都市データ解析です。
【中居先生より】
この度、本センターの共同利用・共同研究部門に講師として着任いたしました、中居と申します。私のこれまでの研究では、減災、気候変動への適応、社会と水との相互作用における社会基盤整備の役割、そして都市の持続可能性に焦点を当てており、エージェントベース・モデリング（ABM）、統計モデリング、空間最適化といった手法を組み合わせたアプローチを活用してきました。現在は、（1）ABMによる参加型モデリングを通じた洪水避難計画の検討、（2）モバイル端末位置情報データを用いた人々の活動パターンの解析と災害による影響の評価、（3）さまざまな都市ニーズ間のトレードオフや相乗効果を考慮した持続可能な土地利用のための空間最適化、（4）堤防などの治水技術の長期的な変遷とそれに伴う都市化パターンの分析に関する研究を進めています。また、構造物に過度に依存した防災からいかに脱却できるか、という点にも興味があり、シミュレーション結果を地域の人と共有しよりよい避難計画を考える、フィールドワークを通じて地域の人と対話をする、といった活動を通じて「災害リスク対応を再び人の手に戻す」ことを目指しています。これまでのこれらの経験を活かし、これから本センターの運営と研究活動に精一杯取り組んでまいります。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
