Dr. Naomi Shimpo joined our center as an Associate Professor on April 1. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. She then worked as Assistant Professor at Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Lecturer/Associate Professor at Graduate School of Landscape Design and Management, University of Hyogo and Specially-appointed Lecturer/Associate Professor at Graduate School of International Cultural Studies, Tohoku University. Her expertise lies in urban landscape planning.
[Message from Dr. Shimpo]
It is a pleasure to start working for the Division of Joint Usage and Research, the Center for Spatial Information Science. For more than 10 years I have been engaged in research to clarify the significance, methods, and related policies for citizen-led bottom-up management of vacant land and agricultural land. In particular, I have focused on cases that contribute to social cohesion, resource recycling, disaster prevention, and health promotion. My study sites include not only Japan but also overseas, such as Vienna, Berlin, Christchurch (NZ), and Singapore, leading to the understanding of global trends. So far, I have conducted many case studies using mixed methods approaches to capture what is actually happening as the state of the art. Here, while continuing this stance, I would like to develop it into effective green space planning by using the Center’s resources to analyze spatial information, as well as releasing new green-related data that can be widely used.

4月1日付で、新保奈穂美先生が当センターに准教授として着任されました。新保先生は東京大学大学院新領域創成科学研究科にて博士号（環境学）を取得後、筑波大学生命環境系助教、兵庫県立大学大学院緑環境景観マネジメント研究科講師・准教授、および、東北大学大学院国際文化研究科特任講師・特任准教授を務められました。研究分野は都市緑地計画です。
【新保先生より】
新しく共同利用・共同研究部門に着任しました新保です。10年以上にわたり、市民が主体となってボトムアップ型に空き地や農地を管理することの意義や手法、関連施策を明らかにする研究に主に取り組んでまいりました。特に社会的結束や資源循環、防災、健康促進に寄与する事例に着目しています。日本だけでなく、ウィーンやベルリン、クライストチャーチ（NZ）、シンガポールなど、海外もフィールドとし、国際的な動向を捉えようとしています。これまでは先進的な現場に入り込んで、混合研究法を用い実際に何が起きているかを明らかにすることが多かったのですが、これからはそのスタンスも継続しつつ、そこで得られた示唆をよりよいまちづくりに展開できるよう、本センターのリソースを活用しながら空間情報を用いて分析し、効果的な緑地計画に展開すること、および、広く使える新たな緑に関するデータの公開に注力したいと思います。
