On January 27, Assistant Professor Kotaro Iizuka, together with Visiting Researchers Dr. Hiroyuki Yamauchi, an Associate Professor of Ritsumeikan University, and Dr. Takuro Ogura, a Lecturer of Hyogo University of Teacher Education, conducted an educational practice in collaboration with Ritsumeikan Uji Senior High School. In this practice, a virtual world was created in which students could learn about the target area, using high-resolution 3D models that had been photographed and analyzed using drones and other equipment. The students engaged in experiential geographical learning in a virtual space based on real-world data. In addition, we also collaborated with Hinomoto Mai, who is active as a VTuber, and conducted lectures in VR. This was an attempt to explore the possibilities of learning in a metaverse space.
This educational practice was conducted as part of the research topic “Proposal for an Active Learning-type Geographical Learning Model Using Three-Dimensional Geographical Information and a Metaverse Platform,” which was adopted as a CSIS 2024 Research Grant-Supported Joint Research.
