- Overview
In recent years, as exemplified by the growing use of the term “digital twin,” it has become technically feasible to integrate real-time data—such as the operational status of facilities and equipment installed in physical space and data from environmental sensors—with foundational urban data, and to replicate and deploy entire cities within virtual environments. This integration enables large-scale simulations and future projections that would be difficult to conduct in the real world.
In particular, there is an increasing demand for the effective and timely use of digital information technologies to accurately capture global flows of people and goods, respond to the frequent occurrence of disasters around the world, and address events such as COVID-19 that simultaneously exert significant impacts on society, the economy, and the environment.
At the University of Tokyo, the Collaborative Research Organization for the Digital Spatial Society (DSS) was established in FY2020 under the leadership of the Center for Spatial Information Science to build a “digital societal space” that integrates diverse and dynamic real-time spatiotemporal big data—including those obtained from IoT devices—into a unified data platform. This platform aims to encompass human and corporate activities, transportation and logistics, commercial flows, urban expansion and environmental change, and the transformation of socio-economic systems. The Organization currently consists of 18 departments across the university. Its mission is to deepen domain knowledge through data-driven science and technology, develop new academic foundations for real-time spatiotemporal data analysis and applications, and contribute both to the advancement of data-driven industries and to addressing global societal challenges.
In May 2022, the Global Spatial Data Commons Initiative (GSDC), a Corporate Sponsored Research Program was established within the DSS through contributions from six private-sector companies, with the aim of fostering sustainable social implementation through collaboration among industry, government, and academia.
This symposium is intended to share the activities and latest research of the GSDC with a broad audience. We hope the event will provide a valuable opportunity to engage in deeper discussions on “urban digital twins” and “spatial data commons,” and we look forward to welcoming many participants.

- 概要
近年「デジタルツイン」などの用語に代表されるように、都市の基盤データと物理空間に設置されている設備や機器の稼働状況、環境センサなどリアルタイムで収集されたデータを融合し、これらを仮想空間上にまるごと複製・展開することで、現実空間で実施するには困難な大規模なシミュレーションや将来予測等が技術的に可能になりつつあります。特に、グローバルな人や物流の動きを的確に捉えることや、世界各地で多発する災害発生、さらにはCOVID-19のように世界同時多発的に社会・経済・環境に対して多大なインパクトをもたらす事象に対して、デジタル情報技術を駆使して的確・迅速に対応することが求められています。
東京大学では、IoTデバイスからのデータなどの多様でダイナミックなリアルタイム時空間ビッグデータを一元的に集約し、これらを統合した形で人々や企業の活動、交通・物流・商流から都市の拡大・環境変化、社会経済システムの変質・変動までを包含する「デジタル社会空間」をデータ基盤の上に構築するために、2020年度に、学内関連分野の研究者を有機的に連携した「デジタル空間社会連携研究機構」を空間情報科学研究センターを中心に設立しました。現在、学内18部局が参画しています。本機構では、各分野の深い知識・経験をデータ駆動型の技術・サイエンスにより深化し、リアルタイム時空間データ解析・応用の新たな学理を構築すると同時に、研究成果のデータ駆動型産業への展開と国際的な社会課題の解決支援につなげることを目指しています。
2022年5月より、産官学で連携しサステナブルに社会実装の裾野を広げていくために、民間企業6社の寄付によって当機構内にグローバル空間データコモンズ社会展開寄付研究部門を立ち上げました。本シンポジウムは、この寄付研究部門における活動内容や最新の研究成果を広く一般に公開し、共有することを目的として開催されます。「都市のデジタルツイン」と「空間データコモンズ」をめぐり、ご参加の皆様との議論を深める良い機会となることを期待しておりますので、ぜひ多くの皆様にお越し頂けますよう宜しくお願い申し上げます。
