Today we have rich access to several statistics and spatial data regarding city and population. However, lack of knowledge and technique on statistics, spatial analysis, visualization make it difficult for municipality officials or citizens to discuss the situation of their surrounding environments. Indices which are easy to understand, application to daily life services, tool development based on usual software may help them to utilize rich spatial data.
The aim of this research is to detect stroll behavior from walking behavior of tourist using GPS trajectory and other sensor data available from user's smartphone. If we can successfully detect stroll behavior, we can provide tourism information at appopriate location and effective timing. Several rules of auto-detection are developed to consider individual difference of walking speed and how s/he carries his/her smartphone during tourism activities. Several indices are also developed to compare several rules in terms of accuracy.
In population decrease era, it is a big challenge to reform urbanized area more compact. However, city planning system in Japan is still not effective to make city compact. Municipality officials and local residents may face some trouble to imagine and design the future of the city because they don't have enough knowledge of spatial analysis, spatial statistics, or they don't have techniques of spatial simulation or visualization. The goal of this research is the development of spreadsheet-based tool which support spatial planning and costing. The tool proposes a future land use plan and visualize population distribution in the future based on several parameters set by the user, and the tool calculates a rough estimate of project duration by dividing initial cost to develop new urban cores by annual savings of infrastructure maintenance cost.
To make the urbanized area more conpact, it is important to develop new urban cores or to regenerate existing urban area. The research first tests which living environment factor has a significant relationshop on population change. Then range of value of those factors and relative weight among those factors to attract people to move into the area will be discussed.
